Thai Scout Kindness Activities During 20thJamboree Months


Objective

         During December 28, 2002 to January 7, 2003,   Thailand will host  the

20th World Scout  Jamboree   at  the seaside resort  of Sattahip. ,Cholburi Province where  more than 20,000 scouts  from over 70 countries around the world will join the event, and  approximately 5,000  Thai  scouts   will  have an opportunity to meet their foreign scout brothers and sisters in the jamboree.

         Since  there are  over a million  Scouts  in Thailand  who cannot participate in the 20th World Jamboree at Sattahip due to the space limitation, The Ministry of Education of Thailand  is arranging   a project called

Thai Scout Kindness Activities During 20thJamboree Months” .      

         The  project will involve more than 1,000,000  Thai scouts and village scouts from all over Thailand  to perform  over 20,000 kindness activities during December

1, 2002 to January 31, 2003  according to the second Scout Promise   …..   

“ On my honor I promise to do my best: To help other people at all times.”

 

The detail programs and reports will be posted in the internet at www.moe.go.th/scout .

Activity 1       Meet Foreign Scout Friends via Internet

         There are some foreign scouts who would like to contact with Thai scouts via internet   So the Thai scouts are encouraged  to find names and email addresses of  foreign scouts  from websites which may be  recommended by their teachers  and
other sources.

Activity 2      Send our heart to the Jamboree

      Thai scouts who cannot go to the Jamboree are invited to make their own handicraft souvenir      and let the one who will attend the Jamboree to give away or exchange with  foreign scout friends at the Jamboree.

(the idea follows  a recommendation from the Singapore scout chief )

 

Activity 3    Scout Tourist Guide 

 (coordinated by the Department of General Education)

        Thai scouts in Tourist spots provinces  are prepared to volunteer as Scout Tourist Guides to provide free service to foreign scouts and their families who may want to travel  all over Thailand   before and after the Jamboree, This will be arranged by internet correspondence. The languages available   are   English, French, Japanese

 and Chinese.

 Activitiy 4    Scouts Clean Up Beaches and Tourist Spots

(Coordinate by Dept. of Vocational Education and Rajamangkla Institutes of  Technology)

       To invite more than 5,000 volunteers to pick up  garbage and clean up  places  in beaches and tourist spots including underwater operation  in the sea  by divers .

 

 

Activity 5   Visit the elderly
(Coordinated by the Office of Primary Education)

         Over  500,000 Cub scout youngsters  in primary schools will visit their  grandparents  or   elder relatives  in   scout uniform  and ask the elders to tell their past experiences in scouting. This  activity  will help more than one million  elderly people who would be happy to tell  about  their past to the kids.  The elders who are faraway will be contacted by their kids by letter or by telephone.


Activitiy 6        Visit the Lonely

(Coordinated by the Private School Commission and Department of Non Formal Education)

       More than 5,000 Senior and Rover Scouts  will visit the lonely in hospitals, homes for the elderly, slums etc.

         Foreign Prisoners  in Bangkwang Prison will be visited by scouts from International Schools, to let the International Prisoners  speak with their own countrymen

Activity 8  Gifts for the one without gifts

(Coordinated by Rajapat Institutes)

          More than 10,000 people who did not receive presents   last year  on their birthday, Christmas  or New Year  will receive  a surprise present  or a free lunch  by Scout  Leaders  from  Teacher Training Institutes  who were informed not to forget their parents and their family. 

Activitiy  9   Take  a photograph  of the person who needs one

           Almost  everybody   will be  happy to see their photograph, this activity calls for any  scout  photographer  who will donate  free printed  pictures  to the one who doesn’t have any need such as poor children  in slum areas, bus drivers, or the guard at their school.  The film company  or  photo shops may be interested to donate free films for this project.  Group photos may save costs  anyone who needs their own  copy, they  have to pay.

 

Activity  10  Recreation for the Less Fortunate

     Scout  musical bands and shows will perform at elder centers, adopted children  homes, prisons and other less fortunate  centers  to make them happy once in a while.

 

Activity 11       Village Scouts welcome Brother Scouts

(coordinated by the Village Scout Headquarter)

 

       More than 100,000  village scouts in tourist  spots all over the country  will be informed by the chief of  their headquarters to look for brother scouts from all over the world who may travel through their territories  during December 2002 to January 2003  to render a secret scout welcome code or any assistance required.
